Passport photo dimensions vary from 33×48 mm (China) to 51×51 mm (US, in inches: 2×2). Here's the current size for every major issuing authority as of 2026 — and a rule of thumb for the face-height requirement that goes with it.
35×45 mm — the international standard
The ICAO 9303 recommended size, used by almost every European country and most of Asia.
- United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal.
- All Schengen visa applications.
- Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand.
- India (35×45 mm, 75–80% face coverage).

2×2 in (51×51 mm) — the US format
Used by the United States for passport and visa applications, and by Canada for US visa applications. Face height must be between 25 mm and 35 mm (about 50% of the frame).
Other sizes
A few countries use their own dimensions:
- China — 33×48 mm.
- Russia — 35×45 mm (with slightly different face height).
- Taiwan — 3.5×4.5 cm.
- Hong Kong — 40×50 mm.
